Meole Brace Parents,

Throughout your child’s time at Meole Brace School, they will be part of many in school events and have the opportunity to attend trips out of school to help them learn about the range of course and careers available to them.

All students will take part in Career lessons through PDC lesson every year. Additionally, every week each year group has a dedicated tutor time on careers.

Your child will have a 1:1 Careers Advisor appointment in Year 10 and 11. This is a good opportunity for them to discuss their ideas and plan what to do next.

Also in Year 10 your child will take part in Work Experience. We encourage your child to independently find and apply for a placement – this placement should be somehow linked to the type of career they are interested in.

In Year 11, we focus on Post 16. During the Post-16 application process, we emphasise the role of parents in helping with decision making at this crucial stage. We also encourage you to take your child to as many open evenings and taster sessions as possible to help them to make an informed decision about which course is right for them.

We encourage parents and carers to use career path and labour market information to aid the support given to their children. Below are the LMI (Labour Market Information) posters produced by the National Careers Service which you may find helpful for doing this.

When the Careers Programme is reviewed each year, we invite parents to give feedback on the events that their child has been part of to help us to measure impact and continually develop the careers provision we provide.
